Raipur, April 6: Amit Jogi, the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Chhattisgarh High Court for the 2003 murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ramavatar Jaggi. The court described him as the "mastermind" and "driving force" behind the conspiracy.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma, overturned a 2007 trial court verdict that had acquitted Amit Jogi, declaring it "palpably illegal, wrong, perverse, and contrary to the evidence on record." The order, passed on April 2, was made available to the public on Monday.
The High Court convicted Jogi under Section 302 (murder) and Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and imposed a life sentence.
