National Cadet Corps to Expand by Three Lakh Cadets, Strengthening Youth Development
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is poised for a significant enlargement, with plans announced today, June 3rd, to increase its strength by three lakh cadets across India. This initiative, unveiled by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth in Bhopal, aims to further solidify the NCC's crucial role in nation-building and the holistic development of the country's youth, contingent on robust collaboration between central and state governments.

Expansion to Bolster Nation-Building Efforts
During the inauguration of the Special Joint State Representatives and Additional/Deputy Directors General (JS R&A/D) Conference of the NCC, Shri Sanjay Seth detailed the planned expansion. He emphasized that several states have already expressed their concurrence and committed to expediting the development of necessary training infrastructure to accommodate the increased intake. The Minister reaffirmed the NCC's enduring importance in shaping young citizens and highlighted recent impactful initiatives. These include the successful integration of Ex-Servicemen as NCC instructors, providing new employment avenues for veterans, and the NCC's active participation in prominent national campaigns such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Naya Savera Scheme, and Nasha Mukti Abhiyan. He also commended the NCC Mount Everest Expedition team for their successful summit on May 18, 2025, citing it as a powerful example of cadet courage and resilience.
Call for Collaborative Support
Shri Seth made a strong appeal for continued and enhanced Centre-State collaboration to ensure the success of this historic expansion. He urged state governments to fulfill their commitments regarding manpower allocation, infrastructure development, and adequate funding. This support is deemed essential for the NCC to effectively manage the larger corps and continue its integral role in youth development and contributing to the nation's future security and progress. Director General NCC, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, also addressed the conference, outlining the Corps' recent achievements and its future roadmap, with a particular focus on establishing robust training and camping infrastructure nationwide to foster greater youth participation and enhance cadet performance.7 The event saw participation from Ministers of Education and Youth Affairs & Sports, senior Defence Ministry officials, and NCC heads from all states.
