President and PM salute the guardians of Indian seas
As the country pauses to celebrate the valour and commitment of its maritime guardians, the top leadership of India has extended heartfelt tributes to the naval forces. Observed annually on December 4, Navy Day 2025 serves as a powerful reminder of the strategic importance of the Indian Navy, specifically commemorating the historic success of 'Operation Trident' during the 1971 conflict.
Leading the nation in paying tribute, President Droupadi Murmu took to social media to honour the service of personnel, veterans, and their families. In her message, the President—who hails from Odisha—highlighted the multifaceted role of the Navy. She noted that beyond safeguarding maritime borders with unwavering vigilance, the force is pivotal in securing critical trade routes and bolstering the 'Blue Economy.' President Murmu further emphasized the Navy's compassionate side, praising their consistent leadership in humanitarian missions and disaster relief efforts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined in celebrating the occasion, describing the maritime force as a symbol of "exceptional courage and determination." In his address, the Prime Minister pointed out that the modern Indian Navy is rapidly evolving, with a sharp focus on self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) and technological modernisation. He stated that these advancements have significantly strengthened India's overall security apparatus.
On a personal note, PM Modi reminisced about his interactions with the sailors. Sharing a video on X (formerly Twitter), he recalled his visit to the INS Vikrant during Diwali earlier this year. He expressed that spending the festival of lights aboard India's indigenously built aircraft carrier was an unforgettable experience, reinforcing his appreciation for the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
The celebrations for Navy Day 2025 were also marked by a spectacular display of power in the south. On Wednesday, the shores of Shangumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram witnessed a grand 'Operational Demonstration.' The event showcased the formidable combat readiness of the fleet, displaying the nation's growing prowess in the Indian Ocean Region to a captivated audience.
Today, as greetings pour in from across the country, the focus remains on the brave men and women who patrol the high seas, ensuring the safety and prosperity of the nation.
