Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: Nandankanan Zoological Park has welcomed more than 40 new animal and bird guests from Vantara in Gujarat, adding to the zoo’s growing diversity of wildlife.

The new arrivals include zebras, wallabies, kangaroos and cassowaries, along with several species of birds. Among the colourful avian arrivals are rainbow lorikeets, known for their vibrant plumage and striking appearance.

The arrival of these animals and birds is expected to further enhance the wildlife diversity and attraction of Nandankanan.

However, the new guests will not be placed directly in enclosures accessible to visitors. They will first undergo a quarantine period of around one month. During this period, their health, food intake and behaviour will be closely monitored.

Zoo authorities will also observe how well the animals adapt to their new surroundings and ensure that they remain healthy before introducing them to the public enclosures.

After the quarantine period is completed and their health checks are found satisfactory, the animals and birds will be gradually shifted to their designated enclosures.

Once they are introduced to the zoo’s visitor areas, tourists will have the opportunity to see the new arrivals, including zebras, kangaroos, wallabies, cassowaries and rainbow lorikeets.

The addition of these new species is expected to provide visitors with a fresh wildlife experience while further strengthening Nandankanan’s appeal as a major attraction for nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
