Mumbai, Sept 19: As many as 12,661 Lord Ganesh and Goddess Hartalika idols were immersed across Mumbai by 9 pm on Friday, the fifth day of the 12-day Ganesh festival, civic officials said.
The immersions included 12,463 household Ganesh idols, 175 idols of public Ganesh mandals and 23 Hartalika idols. No untoward incident was reported.
During the one-and-a-half-day immersion on September 15-16, Mumbai recorded 61,640 Ganesh and Hartalika idol immersions.
The festival began on September 14 and will conclude on September 25 with Anant Chaturdashi.
The BMC has arranged 383 artificial immersion ponds at 278 locations, along with facilities at 67 natural immersion sites. Around 25,000 personnel, including 1,132 lifeguards, have been deployed for immersion arrangements.
The civic body has also launched the ‘One Ganapati, One Tree’ initiative, under which it plans to plant one tree for every Ganesh idol immersed in Mumbai.
