Monsoon set to enter Odisha in 48 hours, heavy rainfall likely: IMD

Bhubaneswar, June 14: The southwest monsoon is expected to advance further into Odisha within the next 48 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With the seasonal system progressing steadily, several regions of the state are likely to witness the full onset of monsoon shortly.

In its midday bulletin, the IMD noted that the monsoon will also extend into parts of Gujarat, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh alongside Odisha during this timeframe.

In anticipation of the monsoon’s arrival, the IMD has issued multiple weather alerts for various districts across the state. A Yellow Warning has been issued for June 15 in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and isolated heavy rainfall.

The Yellow Warning will remain in effect on June 16 for Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Koraput.

On June 17, an Orange Warning was issued for Sundargarh and Keonjhar, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for the same day in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput.

The Special Relief Commissioner has advised district administrations to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions at the local level to handle any weather-related disruptions.

Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms and lightning events.
