Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), July 22: The ongoing monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has claimed 132 lives so far, said officials on Tuesday.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 74 people died due to rain-related incidents and 58 in road accidents.
According to the SEOC report, heavy rainfall has caused major problems across the state, blocking 432 roads, damaging 534 power transformers, and disrupting 197 water supply systems.
National Highways like NH-02, NH-21, and NH-154 have also been damaged by landslides and road collapses. Authorities are on high alert, and emergency teams are working to clear and restore roads.
Some of the worst-hit districts include Mandi, with the highest number of rain-related deaths (16), followed by Kullu (8) and Kangra (16).
Roads across the state are in bad shape, especially major highways like NH-02, NH-21 (Mandi-Kullu road), and NH-154 (Mandi-Pathankot road), which have been badly affected.
Damage reports show huge economic losses, with total damage to public infrastructure and private property estimated at over Rs 1,246.9 crore. This includes losses in farming, health, education, and housing sectors.
