New Delhi, May 28: Coordinated mock drills will be conducted on Thursday evening across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir to assess emergency and civilian readiness in areas bordering Pakistan. The exercise is part of a broader effort to bolster response capabilities in regions that were heavily impacted during the four-day military conflict following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
The drills will evaluate the effectiveness of control rooms, air raid siren systems, civil defence operations, and evacuation protocols. Participating units will include fire services, rescue teams, civil defence personnel, and depot managers, all of whom will engage in simulated emergency response scenarios.
Authorities have issued advisories to residents in selected districts, urging them to stay alert during the drills.
This regional operation comes in the wake of Operation Abhyas, a nationwide preparedness exercise conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 7. Within hours of its completion, Operation Sindoor was launched.
During Operation Abhyas, air raid sirens were activated at numerous locations, and civilians — including students — were trained in basic civil defence techniques such as how to take shelter during aerial attacks. The large-scale drill spanned 250 sites across 33 states and union territories and, according to officials, was the most extensive such effort since the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
