Puri, Feb 3: The auspicious occasion of Dol Purnima coincides with the first lunar eclipse of the year. On this special day, Srimandir is hosting the independent 'Niti Kanti' rituals, which are being observed with great reverence.

During the Dol Purnima celebrations, Mahaprabhu will be adorned in a golden outfit as part of the ‘Sunabesha’ (golden attire) ceremony. Devotees believe that witnessing the deities in their various forms during the Dol procession, such as Dol Govinda, Madhusudana in the chariot, and Baman, brings blessings and good fortune.

The Dol Yatra, or Dol Purnima, is one of the most significant journeys of Mahaprabhu, and is considered a major part of his twelve main journeys. From the 10th day of the waxing moon in Falgun to the 1st day of the waxing moon in Chaitra, this week-long festival at Sri Mandira is marked by the Dol Utsav and Dol Yatra.

Today, after the rare Sunabesha (golden attire) of Mahaprabhu, a series of traditional rituals will be observed. This will include the offering of flowers, mangal aarti, and other prayers, followed by Mahaprabhu’s procession in golden ornaments, giving blessings to thousands of devotees.

After the completion of Sunabesha and other rituals, Mahaprabhu’s idol will travel in the Dol Govinda chariot along with Bhudevi and Sridevi, performing seven rounds of circumambulation around the temple. Amid the chanting of "Hare Krishna" and the celebration of Holi, the procession will proceed, with devotees playing Holi and showering colors in the air.

In addition, special arrangements have been made by the district and police administration to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the celebrations.
