Cuttack, Oct 11: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal on Saturday held a significant hearing on the long-pending water disputes between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal during today’s hearing remained sanguine for practical resolution of the problem centering equitable sharing of water resources between the tow neighboring states through bilateral dialogues.
Advocate General of Odisha, Pitambar Acharya, apprised the tribunal of the ambassadorial sessions that take two states even closer to seat, discuss and resolve the matter amicably.
During the proceeding, the Advocate General on record, informed the Tribunal that high-level sessions between the top leadership of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, were concluded with positive notes.
Another significant session is scheduled for October 28 where delegations of both the states would further discuss and prepare roadmaps in redressing the dispute.
The meeting is likely to resolve crucial issues, including water allocation between the two states and approvals for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Apart from it, the discussion will center for advancing the IB project and the Lower Suktel project, which were earlier pending due to lack of clearance from the Central Water Commission (CWC).
The next hearing has been scheduled for November 15, during which further progress on water allocation, project approvals, and timelines for implementation will be apparently clear.
