LPG prices hiked again amid rising global energy costs linked to West Asia Conflict

New Delhi, Mar 7: Domestic and commercial LPG cylinder prices have seen a steep increase amid rising global energy costs following the ongoing West Asia conflict. Non-subsidised LPG for households, used by consumers other than Ujjwala beneficiaries, has been raised by Rs 60, reaching Rs 913 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi, up from Rs 853.

This marks the second increase in less than a year, with the last hike of Rs 50 occurring in April 2025. Industry officials attributed the rise to surging global energy prices following the military conflict in West Asia. Despite the hike, India’s cooking gas remains cheaper than in neighbouring countries.

The price hike is effective from March 7, 2026, and rates vary across cities due to local sales tax or VAT. For instance, a non-subsidised LPG cylinder now costs Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata, and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.

Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, numbering over 10 crore, continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for up to 12 refills a year.

Meanwhile, commercial LPG, used by hotels, restaurants, and other establishments, has been increased by Rs 114.5 per 19-kg cylinder, bringing the price in Delhi to Rs 1,883. This follows a previous increase of Rs 28 on March 1, making total commercial LPG hikes Rs 302.50 in 2026.

The continuous price rise underscores the impact of global energy market volatility on domestic fuel costs, affecting both households and businesses across the country.
