Bhubaneswar, May 27: A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Tuesday.
In response, the Odisha government has alerted all 30 district collectors to stay prepared for possible heavy rainfall and related weather disturbances.
The IMD stated that the system, influenced by a cyclonic circulation, is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours and move northward. The Special Relief Commissioner's office directed collectors to keep administrative machinery ready and report any damage from thunderstorms, hail, lightning, or rainfall.
Districts under orange and yellow warnings have been asked to advise people to seek safe shelter during thunderstorms. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast from May 29 to June 1.
The IMD forecast thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph in 15 districts on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
