Khordha, May 29: There are different legends and tradition in connection with the Shri Jagannath Cult, prevalent in Odisha.
The Shri Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri, dreamt of by Queen Gundicha came true as the King Indradyumna fished out the deities in the form of Daru (Woodlog) from the Banki Muhana.
Yugas after it, the locals of Mahukhanda, a rural suburb under the Balipatna Block limit in Khordha district consecrated a Shri Jagannath Temple in the village, fishing out the deities i.e Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra from the water of Puri Canal.
Though the deities were formally worshipped in the village with no sanctum & sanctorum after as many as 30 years, the Shri Jagannath Krupa Trust and the Mahukhanda Village Committee managed to set up an innovative shrine for the deities recovered then from the water. Besides the three deities, Lord Sudarshan was presided in the temple during the occasion.
It was an auspicious day on May 28th when the deities were consecrated in a temple built up on an area of about 3.46 acre of land.
The new shrine of Lord Jagannath was formally inaugurated by Jagadguru Shankaracharya, the seer of Sri Gobardhan Mutt Puri wherein thousands of devotees and local attended the sacred ceremony.
