Mumbai, Sept 12: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Jolly LLB 3 has landed in legal trouble just a week ahead of its scheduled release on September 19. A writ petition has been filed in the Gujarat High Court, seeking a ban on the film over alleged misrepresentation of the judiciary.
The controversy erupted following the release of the film’s official trailer, which quickly went viral across social media platforms including YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. The petitioner has raised objections over certain scenes and dialogues, claiming they portray the judicial system and court proceedings in a mocking and disrespectful manner.
The petition alleges that a judge's character in the film has been depicted inappropriately, and that the use of obscene language undermines the dignity and decorum of the Indian judiciary. It further argues that the courtroom setting has been turned into a subject of humor, thereby damaging the institution's reputation.
In addition to demanding a stay on the film's release, the petitioner has also challenged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for granting clearance to the film. The Gujarat High Court has directed the CBFC to respond to the allegations by Tuesday.
Key figures named in the petition include director Subhash Kapoor, and actors Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and Saurabh Shukla, who play leading roles in the film.
Similar petitions have also been filed in the Mumbai and Allahabad High Courts, reflecting growing public and legal scrutiny.
Jolly LLB 3 is the third installment in the courtroom drama franchise. The first film, released in 2013, starred Arshad Warsi, while Akshay Kumar took the lead in the 2017 sequel, Jolly LLB 2. Both films were well-received for their courtroom satire and socially relevant themes.
The latest installment is written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, and is currently slated for theatrical release on September 19, 2025, unless halted by court orders.
