Bhanjanagar, June 18: A landslide occurred at the Andhar Koti area of Bhanjanagar while road widening work was underway. During the ongoing National Highway (NH) project, two JCB machines, which were working on the site, fell downhill due to the collapse of a large portion of the road.
The incident is believed to have been caused by heavy rainfall, which had weakened the road surface. Local reports suggest that, during the night, due to continuous rainfall, a portion of the road caved in twice, damaging the stone barrier along the road.
There are allegations that the work was being carried out without proper adherence to quality standards, as the construction lacked sufficient strength and stability.
This has led to recurring incidents of landslides and damage to the road.
Local MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) and Sarpanch (village head) have both raised concerns, accusing the contractors of poor workmanship and failure to maintain quality control during the construction process.
Both the MLA and Sarpanch have filed complaints, with the MLA calling for an investigation into the matter. The road work has faced continuous complaints about inadequate supervision and improper execution.
Authorities have been urged to ensure that appropriate quality standards are maintained to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of the public.
