Land compensation in a limbo: Couple in Keonjhar threatens self-immolation

Keonjhar, July 24: While series of self-immolation cases in Odisha put the government in a crossword, a couple in Keonjhar district on Wednesday threatened self-immolation for denial of legitimate land compensation. 

The couple hailing from Kainipura village under Ghasipura block staged a protest outside the Anandpur Salapada Water Resources Division office on Wednesday. As their concen was yet addressed, they warned the authorities of self-immolation.

According to reports, a piece of land belonging to Sanatan Nayak was acquired by the Water Resources Department three years ago for a canal. However, no compensation was granted to them so far despite a number of submissions.

“We waited for more than four years for the lawful amount. We will take to the extreme if the dues is not received within a week”, said Sanatan.

The statement of any authorites even the designated Land Acquisition Officer in this connection, is awaited.
