Kolkata, Aug 19: The post-mortem report of the woman doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, who was raped and murdered on August 9, reveals she sustained 14 injuries, all of which were inflicted before death. The injuries were found in various locations, including her head, face, neck, arms, knee, ankle, and genitalia. The report indicates haemorrhage in the lungs, blood clots in other body parts, and a thick, white liquid inside the genitalia, suggesting manual strangulation combined with smothering as the cause of death. The medical evidence also points to sexual assault.
The findings support claims by protesting medical students and junior doctors that multiple perpetrators were involved in the crime. To date, only one suspect, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, has been arrested and is now in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody. The CBI, which took over the case following an order from the Calcutta High Court, is actively seeking additional suspects. They have also interrogated the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, for 12 to 13 hours over the past few days as part of their investigation.
