Balasore, July 2: Heavy monsoon rains in northern Odisha’s Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts have led to a significant rise in water levels of major rivers including Subarnarekha, Budhabalang, and Jalaka, resulting in severe flooding conditions across the region.

In response, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been continuously engaged in extensive rescue and relief efforts in both districts. The ODRAF teams have played a crucial role in safeguarding lives and property by evacuating people trapped in waterlogged areas and relocating them to safe shelters, said an official today.

So far, more than 8,191 people from 18 blocks across both districts have been rescued and provided with temporary relief and shelter, the official said.

Currently, six ODRAF teams are deployed in Mayurbhanj and five in Balasore to manage ongoing rescue and relief activities efficiently.

The ODRAF teams maintain close coordination with fire services and remain on duty round-the-clock to ensure the safety of affected populations. Under the direct supervision of Satyajit Nayak, DIG (Eastern Range), the teams are carrying out the rescue operations.

In Balasore district, over 2,000 local residents from areas such as Baliapal, Bhogarai, Basta, Kamarda, and Singla have been safely evacuated from floodwaters. Similarly, in Mayurbhanj district, more than 6,000 people from Saraskana, Rasgobindpur, Badasahi, Betanati, and Baripada have been rescued and relocated to secure locations.
