Prominent Congress leader Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar alias DK Shivakumar, popularly known as DKS, is going to be elevated to the post of CM, Karnataka who is right now meticulously playing his role as an incumbent Deputy CM.

With the resolve of the AICC and the top brasses of the Indian National Congress, accompanied by the goodwill & heartfelt support of CM Siddaramaiah, who abdicated the coveted throne right today.Meanwhile, Shivakumar has earned the confidence of the National Congress who was elected unopposed as the CLP leader right today.

According to report, Shivakumar was unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Saturday, clearing the way for him to assume office as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.

The decision was taken during a CLP meeting held at the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru this afternoon. Most significantly, outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formally proposed Shivakumar's name for the top post, which received the backing of party legislators.

The meeting was conducted in the presence of All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala, who supervised the proceedings.

Shivakumar, the ace south politician and acclaimed hotelier is going to be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka from this June 2026.

Shivakumar was born to Kempegowda and Gour Amma in Kanakapura on 15th May 1962 near Bangalore, Karnataka.

The political debut of Shivakumar remains eventful from his school days and that eventually saw many ups and downs with the flavours of ride & joys.

Shivakumar started his political career in the early 1980s as a student leader and gradually rose through the ranks of the Congress party.

Shivakumar won his first direct electoral battle in 1989 and was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Sathanur constituency in the Mysuru district. He was just 27 years old at the time and contested the election on a Congress ticket.

Later on, Shivakumar went on to win re-election from the same constituency in the subsequent assembly elections in 1994, 1999 and 2004. He won from Kanakapura constituency in 2008, 2013, 2018 and 2023 proving his leadership prowess.

Being a close confidante of party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Shivakumar is among the richest politicians in India.While filing his nomination for election in 2018, he declared total assets of ₹840 crore.

On 2 July 2020, Shivakumar officially took as Karnataka PCC president succeeding Dinesh Gundu Rao.

On 20 May 2023, Shivakumar became the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka following the victory of the Congress party in the 2023 election.

Shivakumar, being a member of the Indian National Congress and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) since 2020, excelled in politics remaining with the Congress. He previously served as the party's Working President from 2008 to 2010 and as a cabinet minister in the Government of Karnataka from 2014 to 2019.

Shivakumar has represented the Kanakapura Assembly constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly since 2008. Prior to this, he represented the Sathanur Assembly constituency from 1989 to 2008.

Apart from his own role in Karnataka politics, Shivakumar has been a gamechanger in various occasions in which he has altered the entire games of other political parties, significantly emerging as a savior for Congress and other needy entities.

 Vilasrao Deshmukh, during his tenure as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, worked closely with Shivakumar when he faced the motion of no confidence in 2002. Shivakumar hosted the Maharastra legislators in his resort located on the outskirts of Bangalore for a week until the date of the vote. This saved Deshmukh's government.

Just before his election to the Rajya Sabha in 2017 from Gujarat, Shivakumar assisted his party leadership to move 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs into his resort in Bengaluru to avoid them moving to another political party. Subsequently, this helped Ahmed Patel to win the election.

Shivakumar is credited with playing a critical role in the formation of the coalition government of Indian National Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka following the 2018 election.

According to political strategists, Shivakumar is going to be sworn in soon during a grand ceremony at Bengaluru, who is said to be a new architect of New Karnataka, well developed in all aspects.

With the new assignment, Shivakumar as Karnataka CM, being a son of the soil of the Kempe Gowda region, is expected to bring about a sea change of Karnataka yet crafting out the best of the Silicon Valley of India.
