Bhubaneswar, August 6: Following the shocking death of a college girl in Kathiapada village under Pattamundai Rural police limits, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria has assured that a thorough investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.
He told reporters on Wednesday, “Everything will be probed. I will personally record the statement of the deceased’s father. No one will be spared,”.
The final-year Plus-3 student allegedly died after being set ablaze inside her house. Her father, in a desperate bid to save her, broke down the door but found her already engulfed in flames. Despite efforts, she could not be rescued in time.
A scientific team has been dispatched to the spot, and police are now investigating whether the incident was a case of suicide or foul play.
SP Kataria added that the investigation would be impartial and that anyone found guilty — including police officials, if applicable — would face consequences. “The truth will come out through a fair probe.”
In a written complaint, the victim’s father alleged that his daughter had been blackmailed by a male acquaintance using obscene photos and videos. He also stated that he had approached the same police station with a complaint six months ago. However, no action was taken.
This heartbreaking case comes amid rising concern over similar self-immolation incidents in Odisha, with three other young women recently losing their lives under distressing circumstances in Balasore, Balanga in Puri district, and Jatni in Khurdha district.
