Srinagar, July 9: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday expressed anguish over the death of five soldiers in the Kathua terror attack and offered deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
He also reaffirmed his confidence in the Army's resolve to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, Singh wrote, “I am deeply anguished at the loss of five of our brave Indian Army Soldiers in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua (J&K). My deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Nation stands firm with them in this difficult time. The Counter Terrorist operations are underway, and our soldiers are determined to usher in peace and order in the region. I pray for a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries in this dastardly terror attack.”
It is worth mentioning that five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were martyred and five others were injured in a terrorist ambush on an Army vehicle in the Badnota area of Kathua district on Monday.
A large-scale Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) is currently ongoing in the region to track down the terrorists.
Elite Para commandos of the Army were deployed via airdrop during the CASO to ensure the swift neutralization of those behind Monday's terror attack.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from the public and political leaders alike.
This marks the second major terrorist incident in Kathua district in the past four weeks.
