Itanagar, August 10: Chief Justice of India B R Gavai on Sunday stressed that the true purpose of the judiciary, legislature, and executive is to serve the people by ensuring justice is delivered swiftly, affordably, and accessibly.
Speaking after inaugurating the new building of the Gauhati High Court’s Itanagar Permanent Bench, CJI Gavai underlined his firm belief in decentralisation of justice. “Justice must be brought to people’s doorsteps,” he remarked, adding that accessibility is key to a fair legal system.
He emphasised that these institutions are not meant to serve the privileged few. “Courts, the judiciary, and the legislature do not exist for royals, judges, or members of the executive. Our sole purpose is to deliver justice to the people,” he said.
