The Supreme Court Collegium had earlier recommended Justice Tandon's name for the position. Currently serving as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Tandon will now take charge of Odisha's highest judicial authority.
Worth mentioning, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his appointment following the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19. In the interim, Justice Arindam Sinha is the Acting Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court.
Justice Harish Tandon was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010. He is ranked as the seventh most senior judge among the High Court Chief Justices in India. He is also the most senior judge at the Calcutta High Court.
