Jammu, May 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that people who fled their homes due to recent Pakistani shelling in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Poonch district, can now safely return, as a military understanding between India and Pakistan has brought the situation under control.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah described the shelling as having created a "war-like situation," with Poonch district facing the worst of the attacks. However, he assured that the displaced residents should begin returning to their homes with the firing halted.
“Nearly 80 to 90 per cent of Poonch town was vacated due to the shelling. Now that calm has returned, I urge the residents to consider moving back,” he said.
Abdullah also dismissed ongoing propaganda by Pakistan’s military, stating that while such tactics may continue, the international community is aware of the ground realities.
