Puri, Sept 4: Internationally acclaimed sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik created a spectacular sand sculpture of Bal Gopal at Puri Beach on Thursday to mark the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami.
The 8-foot-tall sand sculpture, carrying the message “Happy Janmashtami,” beautifully portrays Lord Krishna in his divine childhood form. The artwork captures the spiritual essence of the festival while showcasing the rich cultural traditions associated with Lord Krishna.
The sculpture features Bal Gopal holding his iconic flute, with a large Makhan Handi (butter pot) and a cow beside him. The artistic composition depicts the beloved childhood stories of Krishna and his playful days in Gokul.
Adding a distinctive touch to the creation, 101 miniature Makhan Handis have been placed around the main sculpture. The arrangement symbolises devotion and the festive joy associated with Bal Gopal.
The sand artwork was created with the support of students from the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute.
Extending his greetings on Janmashtami, Pattnaik wished for peace, happiness, good health and prosperity for everyone. He expressed hope that the divine presence of Bal Gopal would fill people's lives with love, compassion, positivity and harmony.
The unique sand sculpture attracted a large number of tourists and visitors at Puri Beach, who gathered to admire the artwork and celebrate the festival.
Sudarsan Pattnaik has represented India at more than 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals, earning global recognition for his distinctive artistic style. Through his sand art, he has consistently highlighted India's cultural heritage while also spreading awareness about issues such as climate change, plastic pollution, public health and global peace.
