Jagatsinghpur, November 5: In a major initiative to promote road safety and prevent road accidents, Jagatsinghpur Police organised a Road Safety Awareness and Helmet Distribution Programme on Thursday in front of Jagatsinghpur Police Station.

The programme was graced by Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Cuttack; Ankit Kumar Verma, Superintendent of Police, Jagatsinghpur; J. Sonal, Collector, Jagatsinghpur; and other senior police officers and district officials.

During the programme, more than 100 helmets were distributed among two-wheeler riders to encourage safe riding practices and underline the importance of using protective headgear. The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about road safety and highlight the collective responsibility of citizens in reducing road accidents, injuries and fatalities.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, IGP, Central Range, stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility and requires the active participation of every individual. He urged all two-wheeler riders to wear standard-quality helmets at all times, irrespective of the distance they travel.

Emphasising the life-saving importance of helmets, the IGP said that wearing one should not be viewed merely as a legal obligation to avoid traffic penalties but as a vital measure to protect lives and minimise the risk of serious head injuries or fatalities during road accidents.

He also called upon citizens to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, avoid overspeeding, refrain from reckless driving and demonstrate responsible behaviour on the roads. He encouraged people to spread awareness among their family members, friends and fellow commuters about the importance of following road safety practices.

The participation of the District Collector and senior police officials highlighted the coordinated efforts of the district administration and Jagatsinghpur Police to strengthen road safety awareness and promote a culture of responsible driving.

Through such community-oriented initiatives, Jagatsinghpur Police aims to encourage voluntary compliance with traffic regulations, promote safe riding habits and create a safer road environment for everyone.

Jagatsinghpur Police appeals to all citizens to wear helmets, obey traffic rules and make road safety a priority. Remember, responsible road behaviour saves lives, and every life matters.
