Iran Resumes International Flights from Tehran

Commercial aviation returns to Tehran as regional stability holds.

International passenger services are set to return to Imam Khomeini International Airport this Saturday, marking the first major restoration of foreign travel since conflict erupted on February 28. Aviation authorities confirmed that round-trip flights connecting Tehran to Istanbul and Muscat have received official authorisation. This move signals a cautious return to normalcy for a nation whose airspace remained largely dormant for over 50 days during the intense standoff between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Ramin Kashef Azar, CEO of Imam Khomeini Airport City, stated that all navigation systems and ground infrastructure are now fully functional. While cargo operations continued during the height of the hostilities, passenger airlines had previously relocated their fleets to safer jurisdictions. This phased reopening follows the restoration of domestic links, such as the Tehran-Mashhad route, which resumed earlier this week under the national carrier, Iran Air.

Historical data suggests that Iranian aviation often serves as a barometer for regional geopolitics; similar closures during the 1980s "War of the Cities" highlighted how vital air corridors are to Persian Gulf stability. Currently, the fragile truce brokered by Pakistan remains the primary driver behind this reopening.
