Bengaluru, July 01: He announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the end of 2024 season. His final assignment was with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), as a keeper-batsman.
Though he quit as a player, but the RCB management decided to retain the 39-year-old former India wicketkeeper batsman with a new responsibility. He has been roped in as the RCB's batting coach and mentor.
Dinesh Karthik, the 'never say no' former Team India gloves-man will certainly be seen in a new responsibility when IPL 2025 starts. In his reaction to the media, Karthik stated he excited to contribute to RCB in a new role.
Karthik, the ever cheerful and committed cricketer, who hails from Tamil Nadu, was part of the Indian contingent that won the 2007 inaugural ICCC T20 World Cup.
His domestic and IPL performance earned him a place back in the Indian team in 2022. He was part of the Indian squad during the T20 World Cup 2022, held in Australia. His famous last ball six in Asia Cup made him a hero again.
He played for a number of teams in the IPL including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and two stints with the RCB. He even captained KKR.
In his final IPL season this year, DK scored 300 runs at a stellar strike rate of 187.36 for the RCB, which was really impressive. Because prior to IPL 2024, Karthik hardly played any competitive cricket after his retirement from international cricket a year back.
