Goa will host the final mini-auction on December 16
Bidding for the upcoming Indian Premier League season is officially heading to Goa on December 16. Board officials have scheduled this day-long event to happen precisely on the exact same date as the second one-day international clash featuring India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. Goa previously served as a secondary consideration for cricket logistics, but hosting this marquee event highlights its growing prominence in sports administration.
Franchise retention deadlines
Teams must finalize their player lists by November 15. Following this strict cutoff, organisers will circulate the complete pool of registered cricketers so management can evaluate options. Franchise leadership groups will get the definitive names and bidding sequence just days before gathering. Player swapping has already started with two notable exchanges taking place since the last season wrapped up. Lucknow traded Rishabh Pant to Delhi in return for wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Furthermore, Delhi transferred fast bowler T Natarajan to Hyderabad to acquire uncapped leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.

Future tournament timeline
Board secretary Devajit Saikia indicated that the 2027 tournament should kick off during late March. This upcoming bidding war in Goa serves as the final mini-auction of the current cycle before a major squad reset happens ahead of 2028. That major reset will also align with the beginning of a fresh broadcast rights period. Past broadcast contracts fetched approximately 6.2 billion dollars during 2022, cementing the competition as an elite global sports property. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will enter the new season holding the championship trophy. They successfully protected their title by defeating Gujarat Titans during the 2026 finals hosted in Ahmedabad.
