Chandipur, May 9: In response to the current escalation in national security concerns, an emergency meeting has been called to review preparedness and threat assessments at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facilities in the region.
Dr. Satyajit Naik, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Eastern Range, will chair the meeting at 2 pm on Friday, May 9. The review will primarily focus on two major defence installations: the Integrated Test Range (ITR) and the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), both located in Chandipur.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the DRDO office, with a contingency plan to shift it to the PXE campus for additional security and operational efficiency.
Senior officials from the district police, coastal security forces, and DRDO will attend the session. The gathering aims to assess the current threat environment, examine existing security protocols, and coordinate integrated measures to safeguard these strategic locations. The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Balasore has been directed to ensure seamless collaboration with DRDO and all involved agencies.
At the national level, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level security review with the chiefs of India’s key border protection forces late Thursday night. The meeting followed India’s precision military strikes across the border into Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday.
In retaliation, Pakistan attempted an unsuccessful attack on Indian military sites, which was thwarted by Indian forces.
The Directors General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) briefed the Home Minister on current ground realities and measures being taken to secure the nation's frontiers. These forces are responsible for guarding India’s borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
Minister Shah also reviewed security preparedness at critical infrastructure points with the head of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which oversees the protection of India’s airports, metro networks, and other sensitive facilities. The CISF has elevated its alert levels nationwide in response to the evolving threat landscape.
These coordinated efforts at regional and central levels underscore the government’s commitment to safeguarding national interests amid growing geopolitical tensions.
