Indian Athletes Dominate with Six Gold Medals on Final Day of Taiwan Open
The Indian athletics contingent concluded its campaign at the Taiwan Open international athletics championship with a spectacular performance on Sunday, June 8th, securing six gold medals on the final day of the competition. The impressive showing included dominant victories in track and field events, several championship records, and two double podium finishes, underscoring the depth and talent of the team.
Gold Medal Rush and Record-Breaking Performances
India's athletes delivered across multiple disciplines. In the women's 400m hurdles, three-time national champion Vithya Ramraj clinched gold with a time of 56.53s. Javelin throwers Annu Rani and Rohit Yadav also secured top spots on the podium; Rani won the women's event with a throw of 56.82m, while Yadav's best effort of 74.42m was enough to claim gold in the men's competition.
The middle-distance runners were particularly impressive. Pooja set a new championship record in the women's 800m, winning gold with a time of 2:02.79s. Krishan Kumar followed suit in the men's 800m final, also setting a new championship record with his gold-winning time of 1:48.46s. The successful day was capped off by the men's 4x400m relay team—comprising Santosh T, Vishal TK, Dharamveer Chaudhary, and Manu TS—which won gold with a championship record time of 3:05.58s.
Double Podiums Highlight India's Strength
Indian athletes achieved two double podium finishes, showcasing their collective strength. In the women's 800m, Pooja's gold was complemented by Twinkle Chaudhary, who secured the silver medal with a time of 2:06.96s. The women's long jump event also saw two Indians on the podium, with Shaili Singh winning silver with a leap of 6.41m and Ancy Sojan taking bronze with 6.39m.
Adding to the medal tally, Yashas Palaksha won a silver in the men's 400m hurdles, achieving a personal best time of 49.22s.
