New Delhi, May 11: Amid the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting with the top defense officials at his residence.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the heads of the three armed forces.

The meeting took place during a tense calm at the Pakistan border, where no new ceasefire violations were reported. After Pakistan violated the ceasefire, the night remained quiet as both sides agreed to follow it on Saturday.

The ceasefire was first announced by US President Donald Trump on Saturday, and New Delhi confirmed that India and Pakistan had reached an agreement to stop firing and military actions.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar clearly stated that India has always taken a strong and unwavering position against terrorism in all its forms and will continue to do so.

Although Pakistan, which had asked the US to help broker peace after India's strong response, also announced a ceasefire, it later broke the agreement. India quickly retaliated, and after that, Pakistan stopped sending drones and missiles into Indian territory.

India clearly stated that Pakistani drones were spotted and intercepted in several areas, including Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, parts of Gujarat, and Barmer in Rajasthan. As a result, blackouts had to be reimposed in some border areas.

India said Pakistan broke the ceasefire and that the armed forces were giving a strong and suitable response.

In a late-night press briefing on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that India is taking these violations very seriously.

"We urge Pakistan to take the necessary steps to address these violations and handle the situation responsibly. The armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and have been given clear instructions to take strong action if border violations along the International Border and the LoC happen again," he said.

Later, Pakistan said it is committed to fully following the ceasefire agreement. Its Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, stated, "Pakistan believes this is a new start in resolving the issues that have troubled the region and stopped it from moving towards peace, prosperity, and stability."
