Six franchises prepare for highly anticipated state cricket action

Cuttack is preparing to host thrilling state-level cricket as six franchises gear up for the upcoming Odisha T20 League CM Trophy. Matches will take place at the iconic Barabati Stadium from September 20 to September 29. Historically, this legendary sports venue in Cuttack has nurtured generations of local athletic talent, and this year promises to deliver another high-energy tournament for local fans. Spectators will watch 17 competitive fixtures featuring strong squads like Bhubaneswar Tigers, Puri Titans, Keonjhar Miners, Rourkela Superstars, Sambalpur Warriors, and Kataka Panthers.

Focus on youth development

Creating strong pathways for upcoming sports talent remains the primary goal for the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA). OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty emphasized that excitement continues to grow rapidly before the opening game. He stated clearly that building a stronger cricket structure in the state is a top priority, ensuring young players find real opportunities to shine. Competing in such an intense environment allows these emerging athletes to gain confidence and eventually elevate their professional sporting careers.

Echoing this forward-looking vision, OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera pointed out the importance of testing rookies in demanding match situations. Playing alongside and against seasoned professionals helps these athletes understand what succeeding at a higher level truly requires. Both officials hope this upcoming event will help more players take meaningful steps forward on the national stage, building a deeper talent pool for the state.

Fans attending the closing day will enjoy an extra treat before the trophy presentation. Organizers have scheduled a special women’s exhibition game to conclude the ten-day tournament. This match provides women cricketers a valuable chance to display their abilities under the big stadium lights. Organizers are confident that combining deep local talent with enthusiastic supporters will result in a highly memorable sports festival.
