Bhubaneswar, June 26: The controversy surrounding errors in textbooks for Classes I to VIII has intensified, with the Opposition stepping up its attack on the Odisha government. While the government has decided to recall all incorrectly printed textbooks and promised stringent action against those responsible, the Chief Minister's claim of a "larger conspiracy" behind the mistakes has triggered a fresh political storm.

Joining the BJD in criticizing the government, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Das questioned the Chief Minister's remarks, demanding that the government identify those responsible for the alleged conspiracy and the textbook printing errors.

"It is good that the Chief Minister has admitted there was a conspiracy. But who masterminded it? Who printed the faulty textbooks? Despite acknowledging the mistakes, no action has been taken so far," Das said. He urged the government to immediately correct the errors, distribute revised textbooks to students without delay, and initiate strict action against those responsible, including officials of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

Earlier, BJD MLA Sarada Jena had also targeted the government, saying the Chief Minister's statement had raised more questions than answers. "Merely claiming there was a conspiracy is not enough. The government must reveal who was behind it. Instead of accepting responsibility, it is trying to shift the blame," he said.

Jena further alleged that the BJP government, during its 24 months in office, had focused more on blaming the previous 24-year BJD regime than addressing governance issues. He demanded that the government clarify who was responsible for preparing and printing the textbooks, what role the concerned minister and officials played, and against whom action would be taken.

The textbook controversy has now turned into a major political issue, with both the Congress and the BJD demanding transparency, accountability, and immediate corrective measures from the state government.
