Delhi, June 12: The Ministry of Railways has now decided that all departmental examinations in the Indian Railways will be conducted through Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that the ministry is also planning to further expand the tablet-based examination system across the Railways, being aware of the drawbacks of the off line exams.
The move is aimed at ensuring a more transparent, efficient, and technology-driven recruitment process while strengthening the overall administrative framework of Indian Railways.
The Minister said the Railways has significantly accelerated the adoption of technology in its recruitment procedures to make the system more organised and streamlined.
As part of its ongoing recruitment drive, the Indian Railways has provided employment to 43,781 candidates during the financial year 2025-26.
The Railways recruited as many as 18,799 Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs), 14,298 Technicians, and 1,376 Paramedical staff. The ministry believes that the increased use of digital examination systems and technology-driven recruitment mechanisms will enhance fairness, reduce the scope for irregularities, and improve the efficiency of the hiring process.
Taking the nationwide backlash over the NEET UG Exams’ paper leak row into account, the Union Minister is almost set to devise CBT mode of exams in the forthcoming Railways Recruitment Board Exams, said reports.
