Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: The winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on November 27 with a special address by President Droupadi Murmu, marking a moment of pride for the state. The session will continue until December 31, according to an official notification.
President Murmu’s address will be the highlight of the opening day. Murmu represented the Rairangpur constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, winning elections twice — in 2000 and 2004. During her tenure, she served as a minister in the Naveen Patnaik government, first as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Transport from March 6, 2000, to August 6, 2002, and later as Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002, to May 16, 2004.
In recognition of her exemplary service as a legislator, Murmu received the Nilakantha S Award in 2007 for being the best MLA.
Following the President’s address, the Assembly’s agenda will proceed with key financial discussions. On November 28, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is scheduled to present the supplementary budget for 2025–26. The Appropriation Bill related to the supplementary expenditure statement will be tabled on December 8.
