Bhubaneswar, December 23: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has created a new benchmark in freight transportation by achieving 200 Million Tonnes (MT) of freight loading in the shortest ever time of just 263 days during the current financial year 2025-26, said an official release.
According to an ECoR release, this remarkable achievement surpasses ECoR’s previous best of 290 days in 2024–25, registering the milestone 27 days in advance, and reflects the zone’s sustained focus on operational efficiency, infrastructure augmentation, and close coordination with stakeholders.
In comparison, ECoR had achieved 200 MT freight loading in 295 days in 2023–24 and 310 days in 2022-23.
The consistent improvement highlights the robust growth trajectory of freight operations across the zone.
Moreover, up to 22nd December, ECoR has recorded a total freight handling of 384.20 Million Tonnes, including 202.50 MT loading and 181.70 MT unloading, registering a 10.2% overall growth compared to the freight handling of 348.70 MT, which includes 181.54 MT loading and 167.16 MT unloading during the corresponding period in the previous year.
This historic milestone was achieved under the strong leadership of ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal, supported by enhanced line capacity, mechanised loading systems, improved terminal management, and the dedicated efforts of ECoR employees and stakeholders, the official release added.
