Michelin introduces its first locally built premium car tyres.

French tyre manufacturer Michelin has introduced the Primacy 5 in India. This product represents the company's first locally produced passenger car tyre. Priced from Rs 10,000, these premium tyres target sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles across 16-inch to 22-inch wheel sizes. Globally, India represents one of the fastest-growing automotive markets, prompting foreign brands to localize production to reduce costs and improve supply chains.

Class Leading Braking Safety

Independent testing by Applus+ IDIADA at NATRAX, Indore, confirmed strong safety metrics. Testers used a Hyundai Creta equipped with 205/65 R16 tyres. During wet braking tests from 80kmph down to 20kmph, fresh Primacy 5 tyres stopped in 30.5 metres. This result is nearly eight metres shorter than competing brands. Furthermore, tyres worn to a 2mm tread depth halted in 37.6 metres, beating rivals by roughly nine metres. Dry braking from 100kmph to zero took 38.1 metres, saving about four metres of stopping distance. Engineers credit these results to EverGrip and EverTread technologies.

Comfort and Efficiency Gains

Ride quality evaluations showed vertical acceleration of 4.8m/s over a 40kmph cleat test, beating the 5.2m/s average of competitors. The redesigned tread pattern noticeably lowers cabin vibrations and road noise. Buyers can expect an eight percent longer lifespan compared to the previous Primacy 4 ST. Electric cars demand durable tyres due to heavy batteries and instant torque. These new units deliver a 6.5 percent lower rolling resistance under ISO 28580 laboratory conditions. This reduction helps stretch EV driving ranges and lowers fuel consumption in standard combustion engines. Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director of Michelin India, confirmed these products reflect long-term investment in local manufacturing. Starting this August, buyers can find the award-winning Primacy 5 at roughly 800 authorized dealers nationwide.
