Ranchi, June 15: In a significant relief measure for families affected by human-wildlife conflict, the Jharkhand government has increased the compensation for deaths caused by wild animal attacks from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The decision was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Sharing details of the Cabinet's decisions, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat, Vandana Dadel, said the state government has cleared amendments to its compensation policy related to losses and damages caused by wild animals.

The revised policy aims to provide greater financial assistance to the families of victims who lose their lives in attacks by wild animals, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing the challenges posed by increasing human-animal encounters in the state.

Officials said the enhanced compensation will come into effect under the amended provisions approved by the Cabinet.
