Jagatsinghpur, April 20: With an intense heatwave sweeping across Odisha, authorities have revised school timings in Jagatsinghpur district to protect students from extreme weather conditions. The region continues to reel under scorching temperatures, hot winds, and high humidity, making outdoor conditions increasingly unbearable. In most districts, the mercury has been consistently crossing 40°C, with the daytime heat described as searing.
Taking note of the situation, the District Collector has directed that all schools in Jagatsinghpur will now operate from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM. Schools have also been instructed to ensure the availability of safe drinking water and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) for students. The administration has warned of strict action against institutions failing to comply with the guidelines.
Earlier, several districts across the state had announced closures of schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres due to the prevailing heatwave. While some districts opted for complete shutdowns, others introduced early morning classes to minimize students’ exposure to extreme heat.
Authorities have further emphasized the need for schools to prioritise students’ health and safety by maintaining adequate hydration facilities and implementing measures to shield children from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
