New Delhi, July 25: Devshayani Ekadashi, one of the most significant observances in the Hindu calendar, is being celebrated today, July 25. The sacred day marks the beginning of Chaturmas, the four-month period during which Lord Vishnu is believed to enter Yog Nidra (divine slumber) in the Kshira Sagara (Ocean of Milk). Devotees across the country are observing fasts and offering special prayers, seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu for peace, prosperity, and spiritual well-being.
According to Hindu tradition, devotees perform a special evening worship and ceremonially put Lord Vishnu to rest after offering prayers. Religious scholars believe that presenting specific offerings (bhog) to the deity during the evening puja is considered highly auspicious and helps attract divine blessings.
Offer Bananas for financial stability
Bananas are regarded as one of Lord Vishnu's favourite offerings. Devotees are advised to include bananas in the evening worship. It is believed that offering bananas strengthens financial stability and is particularly beneficial for those experiencing adverse effects due to a weak Jupiter (Guru) in their horoscope.
Seasonal fruits bring divine blessings
Devotees may also offer seasonal fruits such as mangoes, jamun, and other fresh fruits according to their means. Religious belief holds that such offerings earn spiritual merit and invoke the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Since Goddess Lakshmi is believed to reside wherever Lord Vishnu is worshipped, devotees are also encouraged to offer prayers and bhog to Goddess Lakshmi.
Churma for peace and prosperity
Offering Churma, a traditional sweet preparation, is also considered highly auspicious on Devshayani Ekadashi. Devotees believe that presenting Churma with devotion and performing sincere worship brings peace, harmony, and gradual improvement in financial well-being.
The significance of Devshayani Ekadashi is also mentioned in the Padma Purana, where it is described as one of the most sacred and meritorious Ekadashi observances. Devotees believe that observing the fast with devotion and offering prayers to Lord Vishnu brings spiritual progress and divine grace.
