Clinical Sweep Sealed in Chennai
Prasidh Krishna claimed a maiden five-wicket haul before Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten century to guide India to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Chennai, completing a flawless 3-0 series whitewash. This victory marks a significant milestone as India celebrates its first ever bilateral one-day international series triumph against the Afghan side, solidifying their home dominance before upcoming global tournaments.
Records fall at Chidambaram Stadium
Chasing a modest target of 219, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal dismantled the opposition bowling attack with a rapid 170-run partnership. Jaiswal reached his second one-day hundred with a towering six, maintaining a strike rate above 100 to enter the history books as the first Indian batsman to hit two centuries within his opening six one-day international appearances. Sharma supported the chase efficiently with a fluent 79.
Earlier, Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi anchored his team with a maiden one-day century, scoring 102 runs alongside Azmatullah Omarzai's gritty fifty. However, the rest of the lineup collapsed twice under intense pressure, derailed by two crucial run-outs from Shubman Gill. Krishna capitalised on the instability, tearing through the batting order to finish with spectacular figures of 5-23.
