New Delhi, August 15: In his 12th Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful vision for India's future, marked by bold announcements and transformative initiatives. Framing his message around the idea of "Naya Bharat" (New India), PM Modi laid out a roadmap aimed at turning India into a developed nation by 2047 — the centenary of its independence.
The Prime Minister unveiled a range of strategic plans, including the country’s first indigenous semiconductor chip, the domestic production of jet engines, a massive ₹1 lakh crore employment scheme for youth, and a tenfold increase in nuclear energy capacity.
Key Highlights from PM Modi’s Address:
1. Semiconductor Breakthrough: From Missed Opportunities to Mission Mode
PM Modi recalled how early efforts to establish semiconductor manufacturing in India were stifled decades ago, even as other nations surged ahead. Now, India is operating in "mission mode," with the first Made-in-India semiconductor chip expected to roll out by the end of this year.
2. Nuclear Energy Expansion: Tenfold Growth by 2047
India is taking significant steps to secure energy for the future, with construction underway on 10 new nuclear reactors. The goal is to increase the country’s nuclear energy generation capacity by more than ten times over the next two decades.
3. GST Reforms: A Diwali Gift
Major reforms to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system are set to be announced by Diwali. These next-generation reforms will aim to lower taxes on essential items and offer relief to MSMEs, small vendors, and consumers.
4. Reform Task Force: Paving the Way to a $10 Trillion Economy
To accelerate economic growth, PM Modi announced the formation of a dedicated Reform Task Force. Its mission is to cut bureaucratic red tape, modernize governance, and ensure India is on track to become a $10 trillion economy by 2047.
5. ₹1 Lakh Crore Rozgar Yojana: Boosting Youth Employment
Launching the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, Modi unveiled a ₹1 lakh crore initiative focused on employment generation. Under the scheme, newly hired young workers will receive ₹15,000 per month, with the goal of supporting 3 crore youth across the country.
6. Demographic Security: High-Powered Mission Launched
Addressing concerns over demographic imbalance caused by illegal migration and infiltration in border regions, PM Modi announced a High-Powered Demography Mission. This initiative aims to protect national unity and the rights of citizens, and to ensure long-term demographic stability.
7. Energy Independence: Launch of Deepwater Exploration Mission
To reduce dependency on imported fuels, the Prime Minister launched the National Deepwater Exploration Mission — likened to a modern-day Samudra Manthan. This effort will explore undersea energy resources, complemented by major investments in solar, hydrogen, hydroelectric, and nuclear energy.
8. Jet Engine Development: A National Call to Action
Emphasizing the need for self-reliance in defense technology, PM Modi called on Indian scientists and youth to take on the challenge of developing indigenous jet engines — similar to the country’s achievements in COVID-19 vaccine development and digital infrastructure like UPI.
