Bhubaneswar, April 28: The regional meteorological centre on Sunday issued red alert for severe heatwave in Bhubaneswar & Cuttack cities.
The maximum day temperature was recorded 41.6°C in Bhubaneswar and 40.9°C by 11.30 today.
Isolated severe heatwave condition has prevailed over the district of Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, Nuapada, Nayagarh and Deogarh, said IMD.
The met office predicted further slight rise by 2°C day temperature at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 24 hours due to prevailing dry air, mainly Northwesterly/Westerly, and high solar insolation.
Consequently, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be above normal by 4 to 6°C over some districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days.
It has advised people to avoid venturing out during peak hours of the day time between 11am and 3 pm and to take precautionary measure while going outside.
