IMD Forecasts Warmer Nights for State as Mercury Set to Climb Amid Coastal Fog Alert

Warmer Nights Ahead for Odisha as IMD Predicts Temperature Rise

Residents across Odisha can expect a break from the biting cold as the latest weather analysis indicates a shift in local conditions. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, night temperatures are set to witness an upward trend throughout the state over the coming days.

Temperature Forecast: A Warm Spell

The weather department has forecasted a gradual rise in minimum temperatures (night temperature) by 2°C to 3°C across various districts. This warming trend is expected to last for the next four to five days. However, this respite might be temporary, as meteorologists predict the mercury will dip again by 2-3°C following this brief warm spell.

Current Weather Scenario

While the days are becoming warmer, some pockets of the state are still experiencing shivers. On January 26, G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest spot in the state, recording a shivering low of 4.5°C, followed by Phulbani in the plains at 8.5°C. In contrast, the capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded a warm maximum temperature of 32.0°C, signaling a significant gap between day and night conditions.

Fog Alert Issued

Alongside the rising mercury, fog remains a concern for commuters. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for shallow to moderate fog over the next few days.

  • Day 1 & 2: Fog will likely impact Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh.
  • Day 3 onwards: The foggy conditions are expected to shift towards Cuttack, Khordha, Gajapati, and Nayagarh.

Twin City Outlook

For the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the forecast suggests a pattern of "Fog or Mist in the morning and mainly clear sky later." Maximum temperatures in the capital are expected to hover around 32°C to 33°C, while minimum temperatures will hold steady around 15°C to 16°C, making for pleasant days and slightly chilly nights.

Dry weather is expected to prevail over the rest of the districts, with no significant rainfall predicted for the week.
