Khordha, June 18: Acting on the directions of the Khordha Superintendent of Police (SP), Jankia Police conducted a special raid near Chanagiri Bahada Chhak on the New Jagannath Road and seized a large consignment of illegally transported liquor. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, information was received by the Khordha SP regarding the illegal transportation of liquor in a pickup van. Following the tip-off, a special operation was launched by Jankia Police. During the raid, the suspicious vehicle was intercepted and searched near Bahada Chhak.
During the inspection, police recovered 380 cartons of Aska-40 Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from the vehicle. The seized liquor amounted to approximately 1,900 litres. The estimated market value of the confiscated liquor is around ₹10 lakh, informed Khordha SP Purushottam Parmar.
The police also seized the pickup van used for transporting the liquor, bearing registration number OD 02 BK 0636.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Debashish Panda, was arrested on the spot. He is reportedly a resident of the Taratua area of Khordha district.
Khordha SP Purushottam Parmar disclosed the details of the operation during a press conference and stated that further investigation into the liquor smuggling network is underway.
