Bhubaneswar, June 3: With the objective of spreading awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle, the Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), faculty of dentals sciences of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University, organised a Walkathon on Wednesday to mark World No Tobacco Day.
The awareness rally commenced from the IDS campus and proceeded through SUM Hospital Square and APJ Abdul Kalam Park before returning to the college premises. Faculty members, interns, and students participated enthusiastically in the event, demonstrating their commitment to the cause of tobacco control and public health.
The interns of IDS played an active role in making the programme successful by disseminating awareness messages and educational materials among the public regarding the dangers of tobacco use and the benefits of a tobacco-free life.
The Walkathon was flagged off by Prof. Sanat Kumar Bhuyan, Nodal Officer of the Tobacco Cessation Centre at IDS. Dr. Basant Choudhury was also present on the occasion. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Gatha Mohanty, Dr. Smita Priyadarshini, and Dr. Sumita Mishra.
The event was successfully organised under the direct supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Ruchi Bhuyan, Dean of IDS.
Through this initiative, IDS conveyed a strong message advocating for a healthier and tobacco-free Odisha while encouraging the public to adopt healthier lifestyle choices.
