New Delhi, April 23: The mortal remains of Lt. Vinay Narwal, the young Indian Navy officer who lost his life in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, were honoured with full military respect at the Cargo Terminal in Delhi on Wednesday. His body was later sent to his hometown in Karnal, Haryana, for the final rites.
His grieving widow, surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers, gave an emotional farewell. Holding back tears, she said, “I hope his soul rests in peace. He made us proud, and we must carry that pride always.”
Lt. Narwal had just celebrated his wedding reception on April 16. He was on leave in Pahalgam with his wife when terrorists opened fire. “Just four days ago we were celebrating his reception… and today, we hear he’s no more,” said a shocked neighbour.
Top dignitaries, including Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva, attended the ceremony. The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, expressed deep sorrow, stating that the entire Indian Navy mourns the tragic loss.
On social media, the Indian Navy wrote, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this unimaginable grief. We stand in solemn solidarity with all affected.”
His grandfather, Hawa Singh, demanded strict government action against terrorism, saying, “Terrorism must end by any means necessary.”
Haryana MLA Jagmohan Anand visited the family, calling for decisive action and urging for PoK to be brought under Indian control. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini echoed the sentiments, demanding strict punishment for the attackers.
