Cyclone-induced rain damages crops across Odisha, farmers worried

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Although the cyclone has moved away, heavy rainfall has left farmers across Odisha worried, with several agricultural fields inundated and standing crops damaged. Paddy, vegetables, cotton, maize and other crops have reportedly suffered losses due to continuous rain and strong winds.

Several districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada, have witnessed heavy rainfall. With paddy crops nearing harvest, waterlogging and lodging of plants could significantly affect crop yields.

Several areas, including Mohana and Gumma in Gajapati, Digapahandi in Ganjam, Pottangi in Koraput, Brahmagiri in Puri and Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur, have reported excessive rainfall.

Farmers who borrowed money for cultivation fear severe financial losses. They are now awaiting the government's crop damage assessment and timely compensation to recover from the impact of the adverse weather.
