Bhubaneswar, August 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha from August 6 to 9, with particular intensity expected in northern and western districts.
On August 6, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall, while light to moderate showers are expected in parts of North Odisha, Interior Odisha, and Southern Odisha. Rain is also likely in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
On August 7, heavy showers may continue in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Mayurbhanj.
The rainfall is expected to intensify further on August 8, with Sundargarh and Jharsuguda likely to witness very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also forecast for several areas of Western and Southern Odisha.
The wet spell is likely to extend into August 9, with thunderstorms and rain expected to continue in various parts of Western and Southern Odisha.
According to the IMD, the monsoon remains subdued over the state at present. However, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Northwest Bay of Bengal or its southern adjoining areas around August 13. Within 24 to 48 hours, this system could intensify into a low-pressure area, potentially triggering widespread rainfall.
